The Neon Free plan costs $0/month and includes 100 projects, 10 branches per project, 100 CU-hours of compute per project per month, 1 GB of Postgres storage per project (up to 20 GB total across all projects), and 5 GB of public network transfer per project per month. Computes scale to zero after 5 minutes of inactivity and can scale up to 2 CU (≈8 GB RAM) when active. Compute quotas are measured per project, so 100 projects each get their own 100 CU-hour bucket. ## What resets monthly Compute (CU-hours) and public network transfer reset at the start of each monthly billing period. Storage, branch count, and project count are continuous limits. They don't reset. ## What happens when you hit a limit - **CU-hours or network transfer used up**: the project's compute is suspended until the next billing period or until you upgrade. Existing connections drop and new ones can't open. - **Postgres storage above 1 GB in a project**: inserts, updates, and deletes that would increase storage fail in that project until you free space or upgrade. Neon does not bill overages on the Free plan. - **Postgres storage above 20 GB across all projects**: once your total Postgres storage reaches the 20 GB account-wide cap, operations that would increase storage fail until you free space in some project or upgrade, even if no single project has reached its 1 GB limit. - **Branch count at 10**: branch creation fails until you delete one or upgrade. None of these limits delete your data. Compute resumes when the next monthly window opens or you move to a paid plan. **Note: Suspended computes and storage** A suspended compute uses no CU-hours, but your data stays in storage. On the Free plan, it counts against the 1 GB cap. On paid plans, storage bills at $0.35/GB-month whether the compute is running or not. ## When to consider the Launch plan The Launch plan has no monthly minimum. You pay $0.106 per CU-hour and $0.35 per GB-month for what you use. It raises autoscaling to 16 CU (≈64 GB RAM), the history window to 7 days, manual snapshots to 100, and public network transfer to 500 GB per project per month. It also lets you disable scale to zero and adds protected branches and spending notifications. The project and branch allowances stay at 100 projects and 10 branches per project, and extra branches cost $1.50/branch-month.
